El cambio climático, tal y como los científicos llevan años pronosticando, está provocando que los regímenes de lluvias sean cada vez más imprevisibles, irregulares y extremos. En los últimos tres años, en España hemos pasado de una de las peores sequías de la historia a un mes de marzo con precipitaciones extremas –sin olvidar el episodio más dramático, la dana del 29 de octubre–, que han causado daños humanos y económicos incalculables.

Estas precipitaciones extremas han vuelto a demostrar una necesidad sobre la que los agricultores llevan años advirtiendo: la de realizar una adecuada gestión de los cauces de ríos, barrancos y arroyos para que canalicen adecuadamente el agua y se eviten desbordamientos que causan graves daños en la agricultura de las zonas de ribera.

La Unión de Pequeños Agricultores y Ganaderos (UPA) de Castilla-La Mancha y de Madrid han reclamado a la Confederación Hidrográfica del Tajo que limpie los cauces de su zona de actuación o que, al menos, otorguen el permiso para limpiar. Dichas Uniones Territoriales de UPA piden que los cauces de los ríos se mantengan en su curso habitual, y no se modifiquen por las últimas riadas.

La limpieza de los cauces es imprescindible para hacer frente a las precipitaciones extremas que se ven favorecidas por el cambio climático. “Con más lluvias, antes no se producían tantos desbordamientos”, aseguran.
